Mission Statement: The mission of the intensive English language program at the International Education Center at Diablo Valley College is to facilitate the acquisition of English for non-native speakers, to prepare them both linguistically and culturally for academic studies and success at the college and/or university level.

School Profile

The International Education Center at Diablo Valley College is located in Concord, California, which is in the East Bay of the San Francisco Bay Area about 30 minutes east of downtown San Francisco by direct train. The city’s mild climate is Mediterranean-like in that there are cool and wet winters and dry, warm summers. San Francisco is considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world and boast world class museums, restaurants and stores. On the weekends, students are only a few hours away from enjoying great skiing in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, hiking in Yosemite National Park, wine tasting in the famous Napa Valley or surfing in the Pacific Ocean.

The International Education Center (IEC) was established in 2000. IEC offers intensive, academic-based English Language Programs. The majority of IEC students continue their studies at Diablo Valley College (DVC) or other universities.

Founded in 1949, Diablo Valley College (DVC) is a public community college. DVC provides 20,000 full-time and part-time students including more than 1,600 students from 68 countries with a safe, friendly environment conducive to studying. Providing the first two years of the U.S. bachelor’s degree, DVC has one of the most successful university transfer programs of all California Community Colleges. Students whose goal is to obtain a Bachelor’s degree can take 2 years at DVC and then 2 years at a university to accomplish their goal. DVC is the #1 transfer school to UC Berkeley.
