Satoru Abe & Masatoshi Nomura Scholarship

Visctoria Reypin, Abe Nomura Scholarship RecipientIn November 2007, Masatoshi Nomura and Satoru Abe were killed in an automobile accident. IEC began a scholarship in their memory. Every year, IEC awards two $500 scholarships, one in the fall and one in the Spring. Each session, staff and teachers nominate students for the scholarship, based on academic wrok and outside involvement in activities and volunteer work arranged by IEC. Once nominated, students must then submit an essay and list of outside activities. A group of teachers and staff then review the nominees and select a winner.

To announce the winner, IEC plans a Scholarship Celebration afternoon. With teachers and volunteer students working together to organize activities, all IEC students come together to play a variety of games including soccer, football, and badminton. There is also tables to make play dough sculptures, learn origami, try juggling and hoola hoop and lastly, have a shot at hitting a piñata! After the students enjoy themselves for a few hours, the scholarship winner is announced. This session, we are happy to announce that French student, Victoria Reypin, won $500 from IEC! Congratulations to Victoria and all nominees!
